Garden Project

GeoAid has established a demonstration household/market garden project to introduce both higher nutrition vegetables for families and to build the local market for these same crops.

The video shows Robert Nzoossi who is a Master Gardener/Trainer walking through the demonstration plot located on GeoAid's compound in Lomie', Cameroon.  Robert is showing us that he's added some local compost to amend the soil and we see the rather dramatic effects by the rapid response of growth in the green beans, cucumbers, okra, and melons.

He also shows us his Nursery Bedding section where he will produce small plants for transplanting to volunteer farmers who will be willing to try these crops and new tastes they introduce into their own households.

GeoAid’s goal for the market potential for this project is the establishment of similar nutritious vegetables among enough farmers to sell directly to the food services provided by Geovic Cameroon's employee feeding service at the mine camp.  This will be a sustainable local enterprise and offer some regular income potential for an association of local farmers located in proximity to the mine camp at Kongo.
